Youth Start

McGill University students working to foster an entrepreneurial spirit within the Montreal community

YouthStart is a group of McGill University students working within Enactus to foster the entrepreneurial spirit within students of the Montreal community. We provide students with the necessary skills to transform their own business ideas into reality. YouthStart is currently working with 3 high schools in Montreal, with the main focus being Westmount High School. Our program provides guidance that high school students need in order to design a professional business plan. At the end of the program, the students participate in a “case competition” and present their own business ideas and written business plans.

We are a project directed at local high school students, which aims to provide an insight into the business world through comprehensive workshops covering the basic business plan. The business skills workshops include how to launch a product, how to raise capital, how to apply for bank loans, how to estimate risk, how to register a business etc. At the end of the program, students will have completed their own business plans either individually or in groups, detailing their own business idea. They then pitch the business idea in a competition to a panel of entrepreneur judges from their school alumni network, who provide honest and applicable feedback, and mentorship when applicable. The lessons are taught by McGill management students and are based on a curriculum elaborated both by McGill students and professors. Check out our Facebook to learn more.
